Tinsel Town Two Stars

Two times in a year I felt thrilled sitting in a dark hall. First time when I was clapping for the magical dribbling of the hockey sticks and second time when I was feeling myself again a school going kid. Both times, I felt highly spirited and same was the feeling of everyone sitting in the darkness. Yes, I am talking about Chak De India and Tare Zameen Par.

Chak de was about the low level of the national sport Hockey in India that too when it is played by the "Susheel Indian Nari" who is supposed to play all roles of mother, sister and daughter but not the forward, midfielder or the goalkeeper for the national hockey team. This movie touched many grave issues like religious-fanaticism in every part of life, regionalism among every one from sports man to common man and individualism over the spirit of team. In three hours of entertainment cinema its really tough to touch so many issues in a single movie but the director Shimit Amin did a fantastic job. His direction proved that the new Indian thinks in an innovative way to address all the problems. He is unlike his predecessors who showed the problem but never the solution, who thought that the parallel cinema can never be mixed with the contemporary entertainment and who considered the main line cinema stars as untouched for such kind of movies.

Ti ti tak digi digi dag dag kili kili kili kili kulu bhigi bhigi bhigi bag bag …yes that was the entry of Aamir Khan in Tare Zameen Par. A person who believes in changing the view of audiences towards the small looking matters. This time he took the responsibility of taking care of small kids who are forgetting their childhood in the present rat race of creating the machines performing well in every field. The presentation was so effective that every one saw his own childhood in the eyes of small kid in the movie and gave a standing ovation to the movie. Full 10 marks to Aamir khan to touch such a grave issue to make an entertainment movie that showed how a small kid in typical Indian family faces difficulties to settle down in the main stream of present society. Really it echoed the song “we don’t need no education, teachers leave us kids alone.”
Both the movies are worth a loud appreciation. Today people are still fighting who is better between SRK and Aamir khan but no one takes an initiative to bring both stars into one project where we can see the visionary direction of Aamir Khan and stunning acting of SRK. Indian cinema needs such milestones to get it ranked among top Film making industry.

Aamir is all class while Shahrukh feeds on mass appeal. This is the line the two actors have chosen for themselves and hence the debate. Yes, Shahrukh is at his best when he's not SRK the superstar but SRK the actor and it shows in movies like Swades and Chak de. How far the two actors are willing to go to make that crossover remains to be seen...After all, with big films come big egoes :)
Anyway, nicely summed up...three cheers for the review and the new age of Indian cinema!

thnx for comments !! Still I believe SRK needs more directors like Shimit Amin. He should avoid working with FK as she is involved in crap project only....AK is on a good path ...I hope it will be changing era of Indian cinema

That sounded like a good review of the two best movies we have seen of the new-Age Indian Cinema.
The shift from pure entertainment or pure art films to a hybrid out-of-day-to-day incidents peppered with good doses of thought-provoking dialogues/moral lessons forces audience for a soliloquy.
Call it Lead India or India Shining whatever.... but indeed the need of the hour is being finally addressed with these imapctful movies...

Cheers for taking me back to the moments of Swades, Chak De and Tare Zameen pe... Halla Bol is next - looks much closer to Yuva/Rang De Basanti. Keep ur fingers ready for the review Bhatti.
